how it all started

I thought I would take a minute to share the story behind how I started “a lovely expedition” and my dreams for what I want it to become. In 2022 I started traveling after a breakup that left me pretty crushed. I had just turned 27 and there were so many places I wanted to see, both in my own backyard and beyond, and realized I needed to stop putting it off.

I didn’t have to do it alone. I have amazing friends, family and my brother who I love traveling with. It was also an opportunity for me to grow and challenge myself to do things solo and enjoy spending time with myself.

In 2022 I saw so many places for the first time including Portland (Maine), Nashville, Knoxville, Kentucky, Tampa, and explored 1,000 miles around Colorado. Since then the adventure has only continued! My brother and I have done 2 California roadtrips up the PCH from San Diego all the way to San Francisco. In June 2024 I went on a group trip with JourneybyJacq to the island of São Miguel, Azores off the coast of Portugal; one of the most beautiful destinations I’ve been to so far. In 2024 my brother and I spent 2 days in Yosemite (that was breathtaking) and also flew to London and did a 9-day road trip around the UK!

When I started my instagram account in May of 2022 my goal was to inspire friends (& new internet friends!) to discover local gems and share travel tips as I learn along the way!

I hope to help anyone who may be intimidated to travel, are scared to do something solo, or don’t know where to start when it comes to planning a trip. But also remind you that you don’t need to book a plane ticket to have an adventure ;)

I have loved watching Raleigh grow and become home to so many amazing local businesses. Growing up here I took a lot of the places for granted and I want to encourage others to support local, embrace an adventurous spirit, and explore your own backyard!

So, I cannot wait to see what’s in store for the future of ‘a lovely expedition.’ Thank you for being here and joining me on the adventure <3
